Zeng Cheng was born in Tianmen, Hubei Province, in 1988, and currently lives and works in Wuhan. He graduated from the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in 2013, majoring in oil painting, and has since established himself as a professional artist.
Zeng Cheng’s practice examines the relationship between humanity and technology, and the tension between history and the future. Informed by Lao Tzu’s concept that “the Tao follows nature,” his work reflects on the condition of the technological age from a philosophical perspective. Through the integration of temporal and spatial structures with imagery drawn from rock art and ancient symbolic systems, he constructs a visual language that reimagines the foundational code of digital civilization.
By collapsing past and future into the same pictorial space, his works prompt deeper reflection on the human condition in a time of accelerated change. At once thought-provoking and cautionary, they invite viewers to reconsider the bond between humanity and the world, and to question what progress truly means.
